The Medicine Buddha, otherwise called Bhaishajyaguru in Sanskrit, is a deity of Mahāyāna Buddhism (a branch of Buddhism born in India) symbolizing healing. He is therefore the master of spiritual and material healing. It was the formalization of 12 wishes symbolizing his desire to heal and protect that allowed him to become Buddha.

He is represented in blue holding in his right hand a plant symbolizing gift: the arura. In his left hand, the Medicine Buddha holds a bowl containing a remedy made from different medicinal plants.
